DEVELOP A COMPETENCY MODEL FOR THE POSITION OR JOB GROUP<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Create a formal competency model for the specific job group.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A competency is an underlying characteristic of an individual, which can be shown to predict Superior or Effective performance in a job; and indicates a way of behaving or thinking, generalizing across situations, and enduring for a reasonably long period of time.<\/p>\n<p>A competency model is a group of 8-14 related competencies that together describe successful performance for a particular job or role, in a particular organization.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of Models. (PDFs)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/PDF\/account-representative-model.pdf\">Account Representative<\/a> (Distribution company)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/PDF\/executives-model.pdf\">Executives<\/a> (Manufacturing company)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/PDF\/marketing-representative-model.pdf\">Marketing Representative<\/a> (Insurance company)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/PDF\/project-manager-model.pdf\">Project Manager<\/a> (High technology company)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>B. IDENTIFY THE STRENGTHS AND DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL AND THE TOTAL GROUP.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20810\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20810\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/products-and-licenses\/comprehensive-leadership-competency-assessment\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20810 size-full\" title=\"Focused Competency Development Program\" src=\"https:\/\/demo.wwwebdesignstudios.com\/client05\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/I.4-360.jpg\" alt=\"360 feedback instruments\" width=\"800\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20810\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Workitect 360 Feedback Report<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>2. Customized 360\u00b0survey<br \/>\n<\/strong>A customized 360\u00b0 feedback instrument based on the model is developed and\u00a0administered.<\/p>\n<p>The survey provides clear, concise feedback from direct reports, peers, internal\u00a0customers and supervisors along with the participant\u2019s self-assessment. The\u00a0participant receives feedback on the degree to which he\/she has been observed\u00a0demonstrating competencies identified and listed in the group\u2019s competency\u00a0model, usually 8-14 competencies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Feedback to each individual<br \/>\n<\/strong>Each participant receives a feedback report that identifies strengths and\u00a0development opportunities. This is done in a session where the participants\u00a0learn how to interpret and use the feedback to prepare individual development\u00a0plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Identify the total group\u2019s needs<br \/>\n<\/strong>For the group, this baseline assessment identifies which competencies are\u00a0strengths and which require development in order to help the organization\u00a0meet its long and short-term goals.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, participant strengths and development areas can be used to identify\u00a0optional team projects which can provide developmental experiences in desired\u00a0competencies for group members.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>C. PLAN AND CREATE A TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT APPROACH AND PROGRAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>5. Plan the development approach and program<br \/>\n<\/strong>Based upon the baseline data, a training and development curriculum, including learning\u00a0goals for each of the targeted competency development modules, is planned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Develop training materials<br \/>\n<\/strong>Select or develop the required training materials. <em>Materials already exist for many of the competencies.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0D. IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>7. Conduct training<br \/>\n<\/strong>Training for each targeted competency is delivered in 2-4 hour modules. Complete individual development plans<br \/>\n<\/strong>At the end of each module, participants work on their individual development plans, utilizing Workitect&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/products-and-licenses\/comprehensive-competency-development-guide\/\">Competency Development Guide<\/a> and online <a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/products-and-licenses\/online-employee-development-tools\/\">eDeveloper<\/a>\u2122. These guides contain tips and resources for the development of 35 specific competencies.<br \/>\n<em>This is where the optional team projects can be introduced as a developmental approach for selected competencies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>9.
