Models customized to an organization are based on analyses of superior performers in that organization, with its unique culture, ways of doing business, and business strategy. The models paint a picture of what success looks like in that particular organization. Off-the-shelf models and those developed by sorting cards, brainstorming, or reading the latest business book cannot do that. Why not learn how to build models the right way? If you don\u2019t, all of the HR applications you develop that are based on those models will be flawed.<\/p>\n<p>This is the six-step process that is taught in this workshop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/building-competency-models-workshop\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Build Your Own Job Competency Models\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20671 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/demo.wwwebdesignstudios.com\/client05\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6_StepGraphicBanner-2.jpg\" alt=\"six step model building process\" width=\"800\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a result of attending this workshop, participants are\u00a0able to:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li>Plan a competency modeling project<\/li>\n<li>Communicate and gain support for the project<\/li>\n<li>Chose from alternative methods for building single competency models and one-size-fits-all models<\/li>\n<li>Build models for multiple jobs in an organization<\/li>\n<li>Use resource panels to collect data<\/li>\n<li>Conduct structured key event interviews<\/li>\n<li>Analyze and code interview transcripts, and write job models<\/li>\n<li>Develop HR applications for talent management, assessment, selection, succession planning, development, and performance management<\/li>\n<li>Use Workitect\u2019s licensed <a href=\"https:\/\/workitect.com\/products-and-licenses\/workitect-competency-dictionary-license\/\">competency dictionary<\/a> (purchased separately)<\/li>\n<li>Obtain 19.25 credits for SHRM and HRCI certification<\/li>\n<li>Create competency models and competency-based talent management applications, including those for:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Performance Management<\/em><\/strong><em>: assess competencies and results side by side, reminding employees that how they do things is as important as what they do.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Training and Development<\/em><\/strong><em>: use competencies to identify gaps in each employee\u2019s capabilities so these gaps can be remedied, and provide individuals with detailed road maps for increasing their capabilities incrementally.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>S<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>taffing:<\/em><\/strong><em> use competencies to hire, place and promote people with the right capabilities to help the organization gain competitive advantage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Compensation<\/em><\/strong><em>: both competencies and results impact pay decisions to reward performance and competency development.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Succession Planning &amp; Talent Management<\/em><\/strong><em>: identify the competency requirements for critical jobs, assess candidate competencies, and evaluate possible job-person matches.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What methodology are you using to build models in your organization?
